Mouse IL-17A

A crucial effector cytokine in both innate and adaptive immunity, IL-17A plays a significant role in antimicrobial defense and tissue integrity. It signals through the IL17RA-IL17RC receptor complex, activating pathways that lead to the transcription of various cytokines, chemokines, and antimicrobial peptides, contributing to strong inflammatory responses. As a signature cytokine of T-helper 17 cells (Th17), it enhances neutrophil activation and recruitment, particularly during infections. IL-17A also aids in germinal center formation, supporting B cell retention and activation. Its involvement extends to maintaining epithelial barrier integrity, promoting the release of antimicrobial peptides, and enhancing antiviral responses against pathogens like the West Nile virus and influenza A. In synergy with IL-17F, it boosts the production of beta-defensins, further protecting epithelial surfaces from microbial invasion.
