A pro-inflammatory and angiogenic cytokine primarily secreted by monocytes and skin keratinocytes, IL-20 is vital for immune responses, inflammatory regulation, hematopoiesis, and keratinocyte differentiation. It enhances tissue remodeling and wound healing, maintaining epithelial integrity during infections and inflammation. IL-20 affects neutrophil functions, inhibiting phagocytosis and migration. Its effects are mediated through type I and type II receptor complexes (IL20RA/IL20RB and IL22RA1/IL20RB, respectively). IL-20 activates various signaling pathways, including JAK2, STAT5, AKT, and ERK1/2, and can also induce STAT3 activation in keratinocytes.
